Cigars/Humidifiers (La Veil vs Cigar Osasis)
Expert: M J Robbins - 1/30/2010
QuestionI want to replace the "sponge" humidifier with an automatic electric unit. My Humidor is a 125 Cigar Humidor bought at Thompson Auction (ret $160.00 my auction price was $56.00)seemed like a pretty good deal to me, but I haven't received it yet. My old Humidor was just too small. (too many good deals on the auction).
Thompson has recommended the La Veil-200, but I don't know if I trust a retailer. In searching the Internet I find that this model is unavailable plus most places call it "Thompson La Veil-200", sorta curious about that. I have looked at the Oasis XL, recommended by James Yee to a previous questioner on this site.
Any advice on this? I am on a budget and really can't afford to waste my money on an inferior unit.
Your help is appreciated!
PS. You went to Fullerton? We may be neighbors, I live in Pomona (pretty close!)

AnswerI'm guessing the humidor is the glass top with a shelve.
Electric is way over kill for this size box use electric with a 500 cigar box or more in my opinion relating to the 1,000s of humidors I have set up.
If it is a glass top box it has bottom humidification use propylene glycol every 6 months and distilled water every month rotate the cigars away from the sponge every month as the closer they are the more humidity they will absorb. And 2 Boveda 72% on the top shelve right on top of
the cigars. Put 2 Boveda on the bottom also for perfection and to spread out the humidity.
No glass - 1 shelve - Humidity device on top lid with propylene glycol every 6 months,distilled water every month. 2 Boveda 72% pillows on the bottom right on top of the cigars
My testing shows these scenarios work perfectly.
As long as the Boveda pillows are in there and have water in them, humidity will be perfect.
let me know what happens...
