Question
QUESTION: At what temperatures should my Digital Hygrometer be reading in a humidor in C/F

ANSWER: Hi Doug,

The ideal humidor temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celcius) but your cigars are safe as long as the temperature does not exceed 75 degrees Fahrenheit (24 degrees Celcius).  Though tobacco beetles (potentially hidden and dormant in your cigars) will hatch at 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celcius), the eggs have been known to begin incubation at 75 degrees Fahrenheit so it's best to keep your cigars around 70 degrees Fahrenheit/21 degrees Celcius.

I hope this helps!  If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

James

QUESTION: Thanks James. I am new at this so i don't want anything to happen to my cigars. My Hygrometer is reading 19.9 degrees Celsius. Is there a plus your minus factor . and should i try to bring it up to 21. If so how do i that by spraying the filters?

Answer
Hi Doug,

19.9 degrees Celcius is fine.  Though 21 degrees Celcius is considered ideal, the safe range for temperature is 19.4 - 22.7 degrees Celcius (67-73 degrees Fahrenheit).  Your humidor temperature is within range so there's no need to change it.

As I mentioned before, as long as your humidor temperature does not exceed 24 degrees Celcius, your cigars are fine.

I hope this helps!  As always, if you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
