Cigars/Humidor issue

Question
I had an uncovered bowl of water in my box to help regulate the issues I was having to keep my cigars at 70% humidity.  The bowl inadvertantly tipped over and went unnoticed for about a week. The front panel of my Spanish cedar humidor has started to swell a bit and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help reverse this?

Answer
Hi Robert,

If the base or front panel of your humidor's Spanish cedar is extremely wet to the touch, press a paper towel into it to absorb much of the excess water.  Keep pressing the paper towel into the cedar panels until the paper towel soaks up the water and begins to feel extremely moist.  This will help remove much of excess water and immediately reduce the swelling.

If your humidor doesn't have any visible puddles of water in your humidor, just let your humidor sit with the lid slightly open to help dry out the water spill.  The humidor lid does not need to be completely wide open.  Instead, just use a toothpick or piece of cedar to slightly crack the lid open.

Within a couple of days, the excess moisture should disappear.  Monitor the humidity level afterwards and re-season your humidor if necessary.

Hopes this helps.  As always, if you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
