Question
My wifw just came back from cuba and she brought me some cigars, I do not have a humidor, so I was wondering if I could put them in the frezzer until ready to be smoked
Gary

Answer
Hi Gary,

I would not recommend putting your cigars in the freezer.  Freezing your cigars will cause them to taste stale.  Your cigars can also be damaged by freezer burn.  If you don't have a humidor, your next best choice for storing your cigars is to keep them in a Humi-pouch.  Humi-pouches are Ziploc style plastic bags that have a humidified lining built into the membrane of the plastic.  Humi-pouches are designed for short-term cigar storage and travel and will keep your cigars properly humidified for up to 3 months (90 days).  After 3 months, you can either replace the humi-pouch or move your cigars to a humidor.

Humi-pouches are available in a variety of sizes and can accomodate everything from a few single cigars, to whole boxes.  They are available at most cigar stores and depending on the size of the bag, they can cost anywhere between $5-$15 each.

Because they're extremely user-friendly and require little to zero maintenance and supervision, I highly recommend humi-pouches.  As an alternative, you can also store your cigars in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware container fitted with a humidification element such as a cigar store water pillow, humidification beads, crystals or gel.  This method is also effective but will require periodic maintenance and supervision.

Hopes this helps.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
