Question
Hi Bill,

I read about this brand of cigar called Famous Nicaraguan - I wonder if you happen to know anything about them. Will that be a good buy for a starter like me?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you.

Answer
KF,

The brand you read about is probably one of Famous Smoke Shops private labels. I'm not familiar with the brand, so I can't give you a recommendation on it, but the company has a good reputation, so I imagine if they are willing to put their name on the cigars they are probably pretty good.

My only hesitation is that Nicaraguan cigars in general tend to be on the stronger side, and since you are new to cigars you may want to begin with a milder cigar. Read the description on the brand and see how they describe it. Look for mild or mild to medium - anything stronger may be too much for you to enjoy.

If you decide to look for something else, we have a number of brands that might interest you. Our Finck's Mild/Medium sampler includes 5 different cigars, all premium quality, that would give you a great variety to try and see what you like. If you're looking for something more economical, and are still interested in Nicaraguan cigars, try our Finck's Resagos brand. They sell for $1.75 - $2.50 and are medium bodied, great tasting cigars.

Our web site is www.finckcigarcompany.com if you are interested.

Hope this helps.

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
