Question
Thanks For your answer on the siglo 1. A friend gave me a RyJ sport largos but I have never tried it. Have you smoked this cigar before, and what are your thoughts and are these handmade? Also, I trying to decide on which Padron 2000 to order: natural or maduro. Which is better out of the two?

Answer
Hi Anthony,

The RyJ Sport Largos is a nice "quick" smoke.  The smoke is smooth and the flavours are nicely defined.  It's a nice cigar to smoke when you have 20 minutes to spare.  This cigar is an excellent "everyday" cigar to smoke.

As for the Padron, both the natural and maduro versions are excellent.  I personally prefer maduro because it has a slightly richer and sweeter taste to the lips.  Maduro leaves are generally milder than natural because they're grown and processed longer than the natural leaves (hence the darker colour on the maduro leaves).  However, the natural is also fantastic and deserves a try.  (With Padron, the quality is always top-notch so whichever version you choose will still be excellent.)

If you can, try one version now and the other version later. ;)

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
