Question

opened box
Hello! At my now passed-away aunts house we recently found
an unopened box of cuban cigars. After some amateur research
we have found out it's not really cuban after all, as the
brand is Camacho. But it says handmade using cuban tobacco..
anyway, the box could potentially be quite old as there were
no smokers in that family for a very long time. I attach an
image of the opened box. There's btw also a stamp on the
underside where permit information and class info is given.
I can mail a photo of this also ofcourse. I'm very thankful
for any help. Best, Robert

Answer
Hi Robert,

That is a box of Camacho No. 1 cigars.  As you mentioned, Camacho cigars are not Cuban but instead, they're Honduran cigars with Cuban seed tobacco.  This means that the tobacco is originally derived from Cuban tobacco seeds but now grown outside of Cuba (in this case, the tobacco is grown in Honduras).  It's hard to tell the date of the cigars from that photo but the underside of the box should have information on when the cigars were made.

In terms of value, it's hard to determine an appraisal value without thoroughly examining the box and cigars.  If you're interested in knowing if the cigars are worth anything, it's best to contact a local vintage cigar dealer that can inspect the cigars in person.

For more information about Camacho and their cigar lines, visit their official website at: http://camachocigars.com/

I hope this helps.  If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
