Cigars/Little black spots

Question
I'm new to cigars and got my first humidor a week before Christmas. It stays at about 70% humidity, but I've noticed little black spots appearing all over a few of them. Is this something I should worry about and what can I do to stop/prevent it?

Answer
Dale,

Sorry about the delay in answering you, I've been on vacation for the last week.

Black spots are unusual - they are not mold, as mold typically is white or gray. I'm wondering if the humidification solution you put in your humidifier might be dripping out of it and landing on your cigars? Are the spots on the cigars themselves, or are they on the cellophane wrappers on the cigars? Have the cigars become softer than they were when you put them in the humidor? Are the spots growing? Are they on all the cigars, or just a few? Are all the cigars the same brand? Please give me a little more information and I will try to help you.

Thanks,

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
