Cigars/Glass jar humidor

Question
I just have a few questions. I'm new to the cigar world and recently bought a glass jar humidor and obviously cigars to fill it. Do I need to do anything with the humidifying unit before placing it in the jar? Also, do I leave the cigars in their wrappers? Thanks,

Answer
Adam,

Sorry about the delayed response. I was unexpectedly away from the office without access to email for the last several days.

First, leave the cigars in their cellophane tubes. These tubes help protect the cigars from getting damaged, and the cigars will stay well humidified even of left in the tubes.

The humidifier is likely a sponge or crystal type. If its a sponge type (or if a crystal and the crystals are dry) you need to fill the humidifier with either distilled water or a propylene glycol (PG) solution. The PG solution can be found from any good tobacconist or on line cigar seller. Just refill the humidifiers as they begin to dry out, and your cigars will stay fresh.

Hope this helps.

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
