Cigars/Cigars to Buy in Cuba

Question
Hi there!

My girlfriend is going to Cuba (Cayo Coco) on vacation and I would like her to pick me up a couple boxes of cigars. She isn't staying at a resort with a government cigar shop and she won't be venturing off the resort. I figured while not ideal, she could buy them at the airport duty free. Would you be able to recommend a few good (but reasonably priced) cigars that she shouldn't have a problem finding? I like medium to full body cigars. Thanks!!

Arie

Answer
Hi Arie,

If you like medium to full bodied cigars, I would recommend the following brands and sizes:

Montecristo (No. 1, 2, 3 or 4)
San Cristobal de La Habana
Partagas (Churchill, Serie Design No. 4, Mile Fleur, Lusitania)
Romeo y Julieta (Churchill,  Exhibicion No. 4, Mille Fleur)
Hoyo de Monterrey (Double Corona, Churchill, Epicure No. 2)

While selection may vary at the duty free, any cigar size within these brands are great so if your girlfriend can't find the specific cigars I listed, other sizes within the brand(s) will be just as great. Be sure to only buy premium handmade cigars and not the poorer quality machinemade cigars wrapped in plastic and made with short-filler tobacco. (The store staff will be able to tell her which cigars are handmade).

I hope this helps.  If you have anymore questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.

Regards,
James
