Cigars/Cuban Cigars

Cuban cigars should be able to be smoked right out of the box as any cigar would, correct?

Does this statement below ring true to you?

"we do recommend to allow the cigars to rest a good while before trying them, so they can become accustomed to your humidor settings as well as the long trip from Europe in varying conditions. This can distress the cigars immensely and it is not correct to presume these cigars will be 100% on arrival, they will take some time to breath and to settle in.

Lastly the boxcodes of these cigars are quite young - all roughly a year or less in age which can cause the cigars to appear harsh or not "ideal" on one's palate . A Cuban cigars typically is at its best after 3-7 years so I would hold that into account also."

Hi Rob,

Yes, both statements are very true but relates to all cigars and is not limited to just Cuban cigars. Cuban cigars can indeed be smoked right out if the box but young cigars (meaning recently produced) will have a strong and bold "raw" flavour. By aging the cigars, you allow the tobacco and natural oils in the various tobacco leaves to amalgamate with each other and produce a richer and more defined blend of flavour. As the statement also suggests, aged cigars will usually reach their flavour peak after a certain number of years. On average, the aging peak is usually around 8-10 years and once an aged cigar surpasses this mark, it will only become more mellow in flavour.

As for the first statement, cigars do need time in your humidor to "recuperate" if they were shipped to you and have spent some time in transit. Although some online/mail order retailers suggest that you store your new cigars in your humidor for at least 2-3 months before you smoke them, 3-4 weeks in a properly-maintained humidor is more than enough time to restore your new cigars to an ideal condition.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I will be happy to help.
