Cigars/Boxed Cigars

Question
From my readings it apparently doesn't make much difference for the curing of individual cigars in your humidor whether or not you leave them in their plastic wrappings.

However, I'm purchasing another much larger humidor for the purpose of storing boxed cigars and would like to know if it's best to keep the cellophane wrapping around the box or not. Small point, but I've got more than a buck-three-eighty in these sticks and don't want to botch up.

Answer
Thyglow,

When storing boxes, you can leave the wrapping on the boxes and the cigars will stay fresh - obviously all manufacturers and distributors store their cigars wrapped. The only drawback is that you cannot monitor the cigars directly. I like to pull a few cigars out of a box every once in a while and feel them to see how their humidity is holding up (for me, touch is more reassuring than a hygrometer) and by looking at the cigars I can rest assured that there are no bug problems... Its really your preference, but unless you are going to give them away as a gift, why not unwrap the boxes and enjoy monitoring the cigars until you are ready to smoke them?

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
