Cigars/Fake Cuban Cigars sold individually

Question
Hi, I just want to know are real Cuban cigars sold individually and if so are they wrapped individually?

Answer
Hi Angela,

Yes, genuine Cuban cigars can be sold and wrapped individually but it would depend on the brand and quality of cigar.  Some low-end, less expensive Cuban cigars (very low end brands such as Guantanamera, Los Statos Deluxe, La Flor de Cano, Cabanas, etc.) are commonly wrapped in cellophane.  Machine-made Cuban cigars (which most are low-end brands) are also wrapped in cellophane.  These plastic wrapped cigars are commonly sold in convenience stores where cigars may not be properly kept so the plastic wrappers allow the cigars to stay fresher much longer.

Some expensive, high-end brands also have “middle of the line” cigars wrapped in cellophane.  Brands such as Bolivar, Ramon Allones, Romeo y Julieta, Partagas, H. Upmann and Hoyo de Monterrey have small, less expensive machine-made cigars wrapped in cellophane.  Small cigarette-sized cigars (cigarillos) may also be wrapped individually.

Higher-end Cuban cigars are never individually wrapped in plastic but may be packaged in a cigar tube (such as the Romeo y Julieta Churchill or H. Upmann Sir Winston) or cardboard sleeve (ie: Cohiba Siglo line).  This is mainly done for presentation and practical purposes as the cigar tube can keep your cigar fresh (for a certain period of time) plus keep the cigar from getting damaged while in your jacket or pants pocket.

Hopes this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I’ll be happy to help.

James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
