Cigars/Humidor Glue?

Question
QUESTION: Hi James,

I have a problem with a humidor where I cannot attach the credo to the roof of the humidor, where it should be. Is there a glue/equivalent that can be used without introducing nasty odors and imparting a bad flavor to the cigars?

ANSWER: Hi Mark,

Because your credo may need servicing/maitenance in the future, it's best to not use any type of permamnent glue to adhere the unit to the roof of your humidor.  What you can do is use either velcro or magnetic strips (with adhesive backing) to secure your credo to the humidor.  Velcro and magnetic strips will secure your credo firmly in place yet also allow you to easily remove it if you need to.

Hopes this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask.

Regards,
James

QUESTION: Thank you for your quick reply! I have a velcro strip, but the backing has lost its adhesive properties. Are they fairly easy to source?

Answer
Hi Mark,

You can apply some double-sided tape to the back of the velcro strip and it should hold quite nicely.  3M makes double sided tape that you can buy at any office supply store.  You can also use double-sided carpet tape which is a bit thicker and provides a stronger hold.  You can buy this at most hardware stores.  Both tapes are very effective for this type of job.

James

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
