Cigars/Trying some new cigars

Question
Hello,

I have recently purchased a few different types of Nicaraguan cigars which say they are made from Cuban plant seeds. I actually enjoy them but they seem to get a bit harsh at the end. I was just wondering if they have a good reputation and if there are any of these cigars that compare to other good brands.

Thank you,
Richard

Answer
Richard,
There is lots of good tobacco grown and lots of great cigars made in Nicaragua. Cuban seed tobacco is common in most growing areas. When Castro took over Cuba in 1959 many growers left the country (with their seeds) and began growing tobacco in other countries. Cuban seed tobacco grown in Nicaragua tends to be full bodied, and some brands can be a little harsh. For some of the better smokes, try Padron, Torano and Oliva. There are plenty more great cigars in Nicaragua, but those are some of my favorites.

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
