Cigars/humidity and how to maintain it

Question
what is the proper level of humidity to keep cigars and how can i maintain it for long periods of time

Answer
Michael,

Humidity is relative to temperature, so the level depends on the temperature you are storing the cigars at. Ideally, 70 degrees Fahrenheit requires 70% Relative Humidity, 72 F requires 68%RH, 74 F requires 66% RH... You can maintain this level in a humidor designed to store cigars or in almost any airtight container if you are not particular about looks. You'll need a good humidifier designed for this purpose, available from your local tobacconist or over the Internet. The best brand I have found is Madelaine Crystal. Their humidifiers and humidifier solution will do a great job of keeping your cigars fresh and ready to enjoy!

Thanks,
Bill

Expertise

I'm a fourth generation cigar maker and have spent 25+ years operating our factory as well as a mail order cigar company. I belong to cigar manufacturers associations as well as retail cigar associations so I'm usually up to date with current events relating to cigars. I've smoked the majority of brands on the market and would be happy to share my opinions of them with you. Since I live in the U.S. I have very little experience with Cuban cigars, but other than that I know a least a little bit about almost every brand of cigars on the market.

Experience

In addition to growing up in and now managing our cigar factory for 25+ years, I've spent time in many factories in Honduras, Nicaragua, The Dominican Republic and Mexico. BR>
