Question
james my partner and I are opening another cigar lounge.we are considering an idear that we saw in south Fl.were the whole store is a humidor. our bigest concern is that by us opening the store in atlanta,Ga. the humidy level will not be correct. plus we are expecting large crouds of people drinking alcohol. so do you suggest we go ahead and biuld a separet humidor within the bar? thanks robert&alex

Answer
Hi Robert and Alex,

Building an enclosed walk-in humidor isolated from the lounge/bar would definitely be the best option.  As you mentioned, the natural temperature and humidity would certainly be incorrect and hard to manage if the entire store was just one large humidor.  If you were to turn the store into a humidor, the temperature would have to be 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 70% humidity year round and that may make some customers uncomfortable.  By having an enclosed walk-in humidor separate from the lounge, the rest of the lounge could be set at a more comfortable temperature for your customers.  Also, if there is smoking and drinking in the lounge, it’s best to keep your cigars isolated from things such as second-hand smoke.  A smaller, enclosed walk-in humidor would also require less time and energy to climate control as opposed to a larger humidor room plus a secure walk-in humidor would reduce if not deter theft altogether.

Hope this answers your question. If you have any more questions, please feel free to just ask and I’ll be happy to help.

Regards,
James.

Expertise

My main area of expertise is Cuban cigars but I can also assist you with cigar etiquette, humidor maintenance and troubleshooting. Unsure of a certain cigar brand? Wondering what a certain cigar tastes like? Have any questions about Cuban cigars? Just let me know! I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. (NOTE: My main focus is on premium, hand-rolled cigars and not cheap, machine made, convenience store cigars.) IMPORTANT: PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE CIGAR OR CIGAR-RELATED APPRAISALS. If you have a vintage cigar item and you want to know if it's worth something, please contact an antique dealer that specializes in "TOBACCIANA".

Experience

I currently have 19 dedicated years of cigar smoking and counting. I have smoked every brand of Cuban cigars and most reputable non-Cuban cigar brands on a regular basis so I know a fair bit about taste profiles, cigar etiquette and other fine nuances to cigar smoking. For 5 years, I studied with Cuban torcedores (rollers), catadores (taste testers) and revisadores (inspectors) on every aspect involving the production of the Cuban cigar and I am currently writing a book that will help beginners understand everything they need to know about cigars and cigar smoking.
