Civil/Commercial Litigation (Lawsuits) - Youtube Copyright Question with Book Interpretation

Expert: Charles W. Field - 10/9/2009

Question
Hello,

I've seen many people teach things on Youtube, basic tutorials regarding software and hobbies, various skills etc.

I'd like to begin taking segments from various Magic Trick Books and performing them as a tutorial for myself and other illusionists. Could I get by with this as "my own interpretation" of the tricks? Or is this even in question of copyright abuse since I'm not publishing this work (printed, nor spoken verbatim).

If I shouldn't do this, I'll just record myself doing them for practice and for my own personal library.

Thank you for any advise.

Answer
Sorry, but this is outside my area of practice. I would suggest first that you look in the local Yellow Pages for a Copyright, Trademark, Patent attorney who offers free initial consultations. Call around; many do. Also, check out lawguru.com. There you can post questions in these categories of law AND direct them to lawyers in your state. Good luck.
