Question
I own a small motorcycle repair shop.  An individual had his clutch repaired.  He came back stating that it was still slipping.  We test drove the bike and the clutch was fine.  3 months later he came back demanding his money back.  We said we were sorry that he was dissatisfied and gave him his money back (approx $300.00)

He now has hired an attorney and is asking for $4,000 for parts and additional repairs.  The book value on his bike is only $1,500 - 2,000.  We still don't think that we did anything wrong.

What could we legally be obligated to pay?

Answer
It depends on who makes the better presentation if the matter goes to court. You should get an independent cycle expert to review the work you did and demand that this person be allowed to examine the bike. Then, if he sues, you are prepared. However, since he waited 3 months, I don't like his chances of being successful.
