Civil/Commercial Litigation (Lawsuits)/lawyer for novels?

Question
Hello:

I once read that instead of getting an agent when you write a book, you can have a lawyer negotiate the terms of the contract and things.
Could you tell me anything about this, or the type of lawyer who handles this area?

thanks.

Answer
Demetrius:

Lawyers have always served as agents.  It is a new phenomenon wherein an agent isn't an attorney.  A part of our role as attorney's is to negotiate and this simply goes hand in hand with placing deals together.

Generally, any attorney can serve as your agent.  There are no set rules or "speciality" area for attorney's to become ones agent.
