Civil/Commercial Litigation (Lawsuits)/Schoolly D copyright infringement
Expert: Charles W. Field - 2/2/2006
Question Hi,
I've been asked to do some gopher research as part of work study on a Philadelphia rapper named Schoolly D. He is considered the "Godfather" of gangsta rap. Apparently, he's also been involved in some lawsuits: I've heard that he's sued numerous people for copyright infringement. But I can't find ANYTHING about this online, and I've tried everything I know of. Could you help? I really need to know who Schoolly D has sued, when, why, etc...and I figured you'd know something about researching lawsuits. Thanks so much!
Sincerely, Marianne
AnswerA quick Google search turned up his unofficial website,

You might start there. However, you have two hurdles. One, any suits he filed would almost surely be in his real name (unless he had it legally changed). Second, any suits he filed would ordinarily be filed in the county and state of the residence of whomever he was suing. That could take a lot of legwork. Maybe if you contacted someone at his website, he/she would be willing to help. Lawsuits are, after all, public records. Further, he would probably be proud to discuss his perceived indignities.
