Civil/Commercial Litigation (Lawsuits)/defective equipment

Question
Hi. About three to four weeks ago I changed the sparkplugs on my motorcycle. I went to O'Reilly Auto Parts and they gave me a pair of Champion spark plugs that according to them went with the motorcycle. Just yesterday my motorcycle started to fail. I took it to the dealership and they removed the sparkplugs. To their surprise the part of the sparkplugs that faced the engine were disintigrated and some metallic residue might have fallen into the engine. I was told that they would have to open the engine to inspect for residue and clean it. This will cost from $500 to $750. Can I claim defective equipment and expect for champion to pay for this repair? Can I sue champion for this?

Answer
Unless you can prove the sparkplugs were defective, you probably don't have a case, although you might want to consult with a local attorney to further develop the facts. If you can't prove the sparkplugs were defective, Champion will surely claim that you didn't install them correctly.
