Hello there, I'm Nick and I'm a sophomore at a school called Jac-Cen-Del High School in Southeastern Indiana. In one of my classes, called Principles of Engineering, I have to do a 10 page report or so on a type of engineering. I've chosen Civil Engineering and I'm supposed to interview a civil engineer for the report. If you could please answer the following questions they'd be much appreciated.

1. Please describe your engineering field.

2. What is your job title?

3. Please describe your particular job and duties.

4. What is your average day's work schedual?

5. What is your educational background, starting from High School?

6. If you don't mind, could you tell me your income when you started Civil Engineering and your present income now?

7. What advice would you give me, as a person thinking of going into the Civil Engineering field?

Hello Nick I will do the best I can without spending a lot of time on each question.

1. There are many disciplines in Civil Engineering; Environmental, Structural, Transportation, Geotechnical and General Civil.

2. I am the Director of Transportation.

3. I manage transportation projects and a staff of 5 junior engineers. I am at a point in my career where I am in charge Quality Control more than the actual design.

4. I work as long as it takes to get the jobs completed but normally 7 or 8 to 5.

5. I have a general high school diploma from here in Georgia. I received a Bachelors of Civil Engineering (BCE) from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Ga Tech).

6. I started in 1996 with an income of 33K and now I make 100k plus bonus.

7. Choose a field in civil engineering that you have a passion for the day to day task associated designing project can be mundane but if you have a passion for it you will love your job and money associated with it.

I spent the first four years of my career in the transportation industry by being a design engineer for prominent transpotation firm in Atlanta. I moved from there to civil site design and worked as a project manager for the next six years and currently I am the Director of Transportation for same firm.
