QuestionHi, i am a third year student of civil engineering from India. i want to do masters in this field from outside India. is it a wise decision? please suggest some universities which are feasible from economic point of view also. thanking you in advance for your reply.
AnswerHello Parag,
Can I ask what is your reason for wanting to do a Masters anywhere outside of India?
There are various factors which you need to consider about going abroad, I myself have many friends who are International Students from various places around the globe and I can tell you when I hear about their hardships of balancing work and university and different cultures and a whole new government system, it all seems like so much on one plate. I am not in any means discouraging at all, I am just giving you some food for thought. What I can advise you is to think about all the factors of being abroad, give them some thought and then decide if you are both economically and mentally capable to withstand going abroad and juggling all the above mentioned factors.
There are various universities which provide Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering in Australia which also have international recognition and this makes finding jobs quite easier. Some are University of Sydney and University of Technology Sydney (UTS) however, from a monetary point of view Sydney is the most expensive place to live in compared to Brisbane or Melbourne. You could try giving Monash University (Melb) a look as a first choice.
Then again this is a very biased response as I live in Australia and am still currently studying at UTS.
P.S If you're entering as an International student, the fees are quite expensive, in Australia, I am aware that its roughly > AU$20,000.
Hope this sheds some light to your confusion. Good luck in finding the right university to suit your needs.
Kind Regards,
Jeanette
