Question
what is the role of civil engineering in any society?and speculate on the future of civil engineering proffesion in Africa in general and in east A frica in particular?coment on the linear and cyclical approach of analyzing stages of construction?

Answer
Hi Getahun,

This sounds like a homework/essay question, which really you should do your own research for.

However, I will say that civil engineering has a very important role in society, because ever since man abandoned the caves, he needed shelter (houses/buildings), means of travel (roads, rails, bridges), drinking water (water supply schemes, dams, tanks, pipework), waste disposal (sewerage systems, sewage treatment plants, drainage pipes) and power (dams, electricity generators, power stations, distribution systems/grids, etc), all of which are part of civil engineering.

I would say that civil engineering always has and will continue to have a major role in the development of Africa, including East Africa.

I am sure you will find a lot of useful data on www.google.com
