Answer
Cortney that is very interesting and complex question. There are many disciplines involved with civil engineering making the field very diverse. The areas most prevalent: General Civil dealing with site design of commercial, industrial and residential developments; Transportation design associated with design intersection improvements, road widenings, safety improvements; Traffic Engineering which deals with traffic studies and signals; Environmental Engineering; Structural dealing with buildings, walls and bridges; and Water Resources dealing pipe systems, reservoirs and pump stations.

My speciality is general civil and transportation. My day to day activity after graduation involved learning the skills to obtain professional engineering license. Today I do alot of marketing and management of junior engineers teaching them the skills to move on to their future.
