Question
Can the derived reinforcement be provided 50% on each   face i.e on the earth side and opposite side of VRCC retaining wall?. Like how we provide in RCC columns?

Hi Subrahmanyam,

This depends on whether the wall is carrying mainly vertical loads (like columns), in which case you can divide it equally in both faces, or whether it is resisting lateral loading like in a retaining or basement wall, in which case the calculated rebar for bending needs to all go on the outer (soil or water) face and the inner face will have minimum rebar. However, if the wall is fixed or propped at the top, then you will get reversal of bending moment, so some calculated rebar also needs to be fixed for the midlle third vertical span near the inside face.
