Question
How do I design a low rise building e.g two or three floors, using materials such as reinforced concrete, focusing on analysis of the frame of the buliding.

Answer
Hi Muhammad,

This is a very complex and involved question to answer over this medium. However, the following websites will assist:

http://www.istructe.org/Publications/pubdetails.asp?pid=4

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=t5pLLiX6an4C&pg=RA4-PA147-IA3&lpg=RA4-PA147-I...

The basic steps are:

1. Work out your imposed loading
2. Design an efficient slab system for all levels both for self and imposed loading
3. Work out total loading on to beams/frames/columns
4. Design the beams and columns
5. Check on lateral stability (shear walls, bracing, moment-resisting frame, etc)
7. Work out the loading on foundations and size them in accordance with soil properties/safe bearing capacity.
