Question
what maths work is needed to become a civil engineer

Answer
Hi J,

Civil engineering is a very vast area e.g. it has structures, highways, Foundations, hydrological structures, irrigation and so own. These areas inall covers all basic area of the math.

But if you are considering a career in civil engineering, you should be good atleast in following areas. Arithmetic, algebra, geometry and calculus. These things are used on daily basis in civil engineering.  For high end applications higher mathematics is also required. E.g. for research area and analysis of bigger structures good mathematical understanding is a must. Now a days many software are available for analysis and design and this takes the burden off a little. But to handle those software basic understanding of mathematics and relative engineering area is a must.

I hope this answers your question.
