Question
how to design a slab ,rcc members.i want pursue my career as strucural engineer,so please guide me
Hi Supriya,
This is quite a complex subject, so you will need to study some books, but basically you design as slab as follows:
1. See whether it is one-way spanning or 2-way spanning, and the type of slab (solid, ribbed, waffle, etc)
2. Estimate the thickness based on span (to start with use t=span/20)
3. Work out the self weight and add in imposed loading
4. Analyse the slab to work out internal forces- bending moments, shear, and deflection.
5. Design rebar to resist the internal forces.
6. Prepare construction drawings showing all the materials, rebar, etc and specifications.
