hello,
every buildings has rods, these rods represent the normal reaction of the ground against the weight of the buldings, aren't they??

Hi Mohammed.

If you are talking about reinforced concrete buildings (not steel buildings), then yes there so so called rods, or reinforcing bars, which are embedded in the concrte for two reasons:

1. For compression, to increase the load carrying capacity of columns and walls and to prevent shear cracking. For a typical column, the rods (bars) will provide about half the load carrying capacity.

2. For slabs and beams, the bars are there to cater for tensile stresses as concrete cannot take any tension. So without bars, concrete slabs and beams will fail in tension of shear.
