Civil Engineering/Daily Job Life

Question
I am a sophomore in a Civil Engineering program, but I'm still a little confused whether I want to be an engineer. While I realize mathematics and calculations are at the basis of what any engineering is; I am curious to know whether a civil engineer simply sits in a room all day figuring out calculations, or if there is real hands on work that is experienced on a typical day of work. I have asked many engineers and have gotten some conflicting answers.

Answer
I can only speak to my career path and daily activities. I have been fortunate enough to work for small businesses which has allowed me to get a well rounded background in many different areas. As my career has progressed my daily routine has varied. Early on my daily tasks were very regimented and regulated to learning the engineering principles of what it takes to be Professional Engineer. Now I am a Manager of staff and wish I did more engineering. I hope this explanation helps, if more is needed just let me know.

Respectfully,
