Dear Sir,
I would like to know what is the formula for calculating Lap length and Anchorage as per the BS Code.Is it possible to make lap in the middle of a column.Thanx

Hi Ravi,

Lap lengths depend on a lot of variables, such as bundling, distance from edges, whether they are in tension or compression, etc. As a general rule laps should be between 30d and 50d. Best to study the relevant codes in detail.

Yes, column laps can be mid-height- in fact these are preferred for seismic zones, but not very popular with contractors as it make construction more difficult/awkward.
