Question

Uniformaly Loaded Beam
Hi Jeanette

How do we determine the location of plastic hinge in a uniformly loaded propped cantilever beam? Its fixed at one and roller-supported at the other. My teacher taught me to first cut the section is two and then write bending moment equations for the right hand side and the left hand side. Simultaneously solving the equations would give the answer. I tried but failed.

Please refer to the attached figure and help me out!

Thanks!

Answer
Hello Osman,

Can I know if you have been taught the Principle of Work method by your teacher? I can then help answer your question when I know what you have been taught. Also, is that all that was given with the question? Any values?

Take care,
Jeanette
