Question
Dear sir,

this is Ravi Shankar, please tell me that what are the process of Temperature analysis in ETABS software. because i have analyzed a 85m long commercial building without expansion joint in temperature stress load it seems it takes no effect of temp.
please also tell about the load combination and BIS codes for temperature load. and process of defining and analysis of  temperature load in ETABS.

Answer
Hi Ravi,

If your building does not have very stiff columns or shear walls, then the temperature analysis may not show up significant results. Remember also that the range of temperature variation has a major impact on the results- so do input the full range. The temperature load should be applied in similar load combinations/factors  as with wind or seismic loading, but not necessarily additive- you could just replace those loads, otherwise the combination become unrealistically onerous.
