plz explain what are stay plates and how their spacing is decided ?

Hi Civilian,

These are stiffener plates either at the ends or along the lengths of I-beams, H-columns or C-channels, to make them stiffer against buckling. The spacing depends on the axial load as well as the geometry and thickness of the flanges. This source will give you some guidance:
