Question
Sir. Briefly answers my few questions. (Emergency, I need to reply to my boss today. Thanks so much.)
1) The overlapping part on steel. How much we calculate on overlapping reinforcement steel on beam? Is there any minimum range or is there any formula for that? I need the answers for both beam and column.
2) The diameter for the reinforcement of Reinforcement Concrete bars. Is it also involve in calculating the how much the overlapping is needed for the structure?

Thanks.
Best regards.

Answer
Hi Tiong,

Basically the laps should be about rebar diameter x 40, but these can increase if the bars are bundled, or are near corners with low concrete cover. The normal range is between 30d and 50d.

It would be best to refer also to your local code of practice or RC concrete standard.
