Question
Dear Arshad Khan!

I want to know that If there is a relationship between modulus of subgrade reaction and bearing capcity..???

For a given bearing capcity how can I find the value of Modulus of subgrade reaction to use in Safe???

I have heard that bearing capcity can be converted into modulus of sub grade reaction by

Bearing Capcity x 12 x 3 = Modulus of subgrade reaction

Where BC in KSF

Is the above equation right

Answer
Hi Umar,

I am afraid it is not as simple as that, becuase you need to take into account the load-settlement relationship. These tow websites will give you the procedures:

ftp://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/cst/TMS/100-E_series/pdfs/soi125.pdf

http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=118633

Also, some soils/foundations textbooks give approximate values for different types of soils, so that may be of help. Suffice to say that this is not an exact science, so you should do upperbound and lowerbound analyses to capture the envelope moments, shears, etc.
