Question
I would like to know how to build a structure using only 10 drinking straws
that will be 5 inches tall and support a weight of 1kg
No glue tape or pins...just straws

Try this link it may help, unfortunately I am not a structural engineer. Additionally I had a hard time finding a website that did not use at least some of the items you excluded.

I moved from there to civil site design and worked as a project manager for the next six years and currently I am the Director of Transportation for same firm.
