Question
Bryan -
I am looking for practical examples of the type of math used commonly in civil engineering situations.  I am a math teacher who is trying to help a student with some career decisions (he is concerned about the amount/type of math he would have to deal with as a civil engineer).

Arshad answered a similar question in Oct, 2006 - but the webpage he referred to (www.guideme.com) isn't functional anymore.

Thank you!

Answer
Hello Polly, the math associated with the degree is far more difficult than the actual math used on a daily basis. I attended Georgia Tech and took 6 math classes on the quarter system. 5 calculus and differential equations. All the associated classes such as Physics, chemistry, core classes us those math classes.

In the real world I find the math to be much easier than college. A lot of things are calculated for you in tables and formulas.

I would love to help with any other issues or if I did not give enough information please let me know.
