Question
dear sir,
  i have a steel H beam around 600mm deep spanning more than 12m, which is the normally available length in the market. i Will be grateful if you please guide me on making the splice design for the above beam.

Hi Anees,

There are two common ways of splicing:

1. Welding, using full penetration butt welds.

2. Bolting- using either end-plates (if only in compression/bending), or with splice plates if the section is mainly subjected to tensile forces.
