Question

Beam-column Joint
In  RCC space frameS, the Beam-Column joint at the discontinuous end; if we provide hooks using the formula for hook lengths=12d to both column and beam rebars at the joint;then, will this joint be a fixed or Hinge? DO we need to extend these hooks by full development to make this joint fixed?

Hi Shahid,

Based on the detailing in the picture, the joint will not be fully-fixed, nor a full hinge- it will be partialy fixed. In order to achieve full fixity, you should either extend the top beam rebar fully down into the column (say around 30 to 40d from the half depth of the beam), or else extend the outer column rebar horizontally to align with the top rebar of the beam, parallel to the span of the beam.
