Question
Hi Arshad,..My name is Zairul..how is the better way to joint the new concrete stump(using for membrane structure tie back) into the existing beam?
for ur info..existing beam have a 3 layers 18y32(beam size 1750mmx610mm) rebar on top..tq..ur prompt answer much appreciated..

Answer
Hi Zairul,

As membrane structures have high tension forces, you have 2 options:

1. Use one or a pair of steel plates that are bolted into the side of the beam- with Hilti or similar anchor bolts. Ensure the bolts are deep enough and that they are not within just the concrete cover to the rebar, as that is very weak.

2. Drill and grout in starter bars (using epoxy adhesive), so that you can cast in the stump RC beam.
