Question
Dear Sir,while supporting a beam on a cantilever portion whether we need to release the end joint of the beam to be connected to the cantilever beam? already given the release to the cantilever portion.right? how it can connect both with released moments.  thanx so much......

Hi Ravi,

This depends on the relative sizes and spans and loading on both the cantilever and the secondary beam. If a release is applied to the end of the secondary beam, this should only be a partial moment release, because in RC construction unless you form a half-joint (like in precast concrete), you can never get a full release- so there will always be some torsion induced in the primary beam.
