Question
Dear Sir,
Thanx so much as my colleague already asked the question that I have sent before and I got information from him.thanking you....
Sir,can we use the same reinforcement that getting in safe for the flat slab for the solid slab also?
when I am having a rectangular area 6m x 5m..the reinforcement for the flat slab will be same as a simple solid slab?which one is more economical? thanx so much ...

Answer
Hi Ravi,

I can tell from your question that you do not understand the basic principles of flat slab analysis and design, so please study the relevent textbooks.

Flat slab design relies on column and middle strips, for which the rebar detailing is very different from that of a normal slab which is spanning from beams or from walls. So, the answer to your question is no.

Generally, normal slabs are more economical in terms of materials when compared with flat slabs, but slower to construct, but you cannot design a single bay of slab as a flat slab.
