Question
Dear Sir,
1.In safe while designing raft slab Is any provision for entering soil bearing capacity rather than subgrade modulus?
2.While modelling slab in etaabs shell or plate should be selected? I am always using shell  is it right?what cases should be while considering plate?
3.And while exporting slab from etaabs to safe and run analysis ,safe is always design it as flat slab has column strips and middle strips...If I want to design as 2way slab or one way slab, how we can do it?

Answer
Hi Ravi,

1. No, because the capacity has no relationship to soil stiffness as far as SAFE is concerned.

2. Shell is OK for most cases as they take account of out-of-plane stiffness, while plates do not. So plates could be used for elements forming a core wall, for example. All such info is available in the Help menu for ETABS- go to Area Objects>Wall/Slab Sections.

3.You should be bale to export the slab including any supporting beams.
