Question
QUESTION: i'm doing my b.tech civil engg. 1st sem. from tezpur univ.i am not sure about it's placements..chances of placements are nil...will i find a good job after completion of my degree or experience will matter n suppose i take the degree from here n after that i pursue an MBA form an IIM then what may be the prospects..

ANSWER: Hi Ajeet,

I would say that if you get a good degree in civil engineering then prospects will be good. I would suggest that you get a few years practical experience before you go for an MBA, because it will be difficult for you to get a management position when you are are young/inexperienced.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: but the main problem is that it is a central univ. where the first batch of other departments except civil engg. will pass out next year and its the 1st batch of civil engg. here and a lot people don't know about this univ. as it is new and moreover wherever i see the vacancies for a civil engg. there they ask a minimum work experience of at least 5-10 years suppose if i don't get placement from here then will i get a job off campus or will i have to struggle there b'coz at that time i'll be a fresher and tecuiters will prefer those with experience...if it would have been an nit then it was o.k b'coz i would have got placement from there but here the chances are nil.i even can't rely upon gov. joba as vacancies are very few and people say that no. of private jobs in this are less....should i continue in the same branch without thinking about the consequences  or should i change the branch?

Answer
Hi Ajeet,

Without knowing the local market, I would say that if you enjoy your subjects, then stick with the same as in a few years the market situation could change for the better. Work hard and get a good degree and you will be better placed to get employment on graduation.
