Question
I want to construct a small change room of size 8.00 x 4.48 x 3.00 mtr size(outer wall dimensions).Can you please advice me how i calculate the load bearing capacity of a column.

thicknes of wall is 24 cm
Size of column is 20 x20 cm

Hi Hari,

You have not given sufficient info to me, but in any case you can do the calculation as follows:

1. Work out the approximate sizes of beams and slabs, then calculate self weights.
2. Apply imposed loading or super-dead loading such as walls.
3. Distribute the loading to the columns.
4. Design the columns as per resources below:
