Question
How much technical skills are needed in civil engineering ,how much of the time is a civil engineer actually working with his/her hands.
Can a civil engineer do a surveyor's work ,how much of the time does the civil engineer spent outdoors

Answer
The majority of my time is spent performing the management of other engineers and budgets. I am more of a senior project manager now. Early on in my career I spent most of my time behind a computer but they are avenues in our field that will allow for outside work. Construction Inspection and Management is one area that might fit your needs.
