Question
Dear Sir,
Good day... while designing a combined rectangular footing I have 12mm bars in long span and 16mm bars in short span
so in the bottom, 16mm bars will be over the 12 mm bars is it possible?.but in the top portion  12mm bars will be coming over the 16mm bars ..right?  thanx so much .

Hi Ravi,

Yes, that is acceptable, so long as you have designed the 12mm and the 16mm bars with the correct lever arms (i.e. reduced lever arm for the 16mm bars).

It is usually better to have smaller dia bars as the outer layers, for crack-control, etc,
